Box Score

Facing the start of a four game road trip and battling to stay in the hunt for a spot in the Heartland Conference Tournament, the Dallas Baptist Men's Basketball Team earned a critical win on the road at St. Edward's on Thursday night. With the 76-68 win, Dallas Baptist (7-10, 4-6) earns their first win on the road and pull to within two games of St. Mary's and Texas-Permian Basin for fourth place in the Heartland Conference.

DBU was led by senior, Remy Ndiaye, who recorded his fourth double-double of the season with an 18 point, 10 rebound performance. It also marks the second consecutive double-double for the product of Dakar, Senegal, who is averaging 12 points and seven boards per game.

After trailing St. Edward's (7-11, 3-7) for the first 10 minutes of the first half, the Patriots took their first lead of the night when junior, Wesley Gipson, hit a jumper in the paint to put DBU up 15-14 at the 9:52 mark. Dallas Baptist would extend the lead to seven when Ndiaye scored on a layup with just under four minutes to play in the half. The Hilltoppers would eventually tie the game at 41 before sophomore, Jonathan Perry, hit a shot in the lane with two seconds remaining to put the Patriots up 43-41 at the half.

In the second half, DBU would open up a six point edge when Ndiaye knocked down a shot from beyond the arc with 16:40 left to play. The lead would be short-lived, as St. Edward's stormed back to take a 60-59 advantage, just passed the midway point of the half.

That would be the last lead of the night for the Hilltopper's, as DBU held St. Edward's to eight points the rest of the way. On the offensive end, three-pointers by freshman, Charles Allen, and Gipson, along with an emphatic dunk by Ndiaye opened up a seven point lead for the Patriots with 2:52 left in the game.

DBU finished with five players in double-digits, highlighted by Ndiaye's team-high 18 points. Sophomore, Jason Gentry, poured in 14 points, while Gipson added 13, Allen 12, and Perry finished with 11.

"I'm really proud of our team's execution and toughness tonight, especially down the stretch," DBU Head Basketball Coach, Blake Flickner, stated following the win. "Different guys made game winning plays for us in critical moments."

The Patriots continue with their four game road trip when they face McMurry on Saturday afternoon in Abilene, Texas. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 pm.
