Box Score THE LEADThe Dallas Baptist Men's Basketball Team would finish up the 2014 DBU Homecoming week with a thrilling overtime victory against Texas A&M-Commerce, 104-101.
Myles Johnson led the way for the Patriots in scoring with 20 points, with nine of those coming in overtime. Four other players would finish in double figures including
Wesley Gipson with 19,
Jonathan Perry 16,
Shannon Lilly 15, and 10 from
Jordan Pratt.
The first half of competition was tightly contested as the Lions went into halftime with a 46-45 lead over the Patriots.Despite a one point lead by TAMUC, both teams had very similar stats including both squads shooting 41% from the field and amassing double digits in fouls.
As both teams traded leads late into the second half DBU would take the lead 83-81 after a
Shannon Lilly lay-up. TAMUC would answer back and tie the game with a JR Owens jump shot. The Lions would go on to continue their lead late, but a
Myles Johnson jumper would put the Patriots in striking distance.
TAMUC held a 87-84 lead over DBU until a big three pointer by
Shannon Lilly tied up the game at 87. Lilly would drain another three pointer with :39 seconds left in half to put DBU up 90-88. Late free throws by Anthony Adams who had 20 points on the night, would help tie up the second half and keep the Lions alive for a chance in overtime.
Going into overtime with five players fouled out and two with four fouls, the Patriots held an early lead until TAMUC, led by LaDon Carnegie, rallied back to tie the game at 96. Carnegie would go on to have a game high 37 points. The nail in the coffin for the Lions would come when
Jordan Walker would sink a three to put the Patriots up 101-97. With both squads exchanging free throws in the final second of overtime, TAMUC's last gasp was a three point heave by Carnegie that would miss its target.
