DBU's Outburst Lifts Patriots Over Rogers State

Box Score

The Dallas Baptist Men's Basketball Team extends its winning streak to three games with a huge 56-point second half to triumph over Rogers State, 92-73, on Saturday afternoon. Redshirt Sophomore, Jonathan Perry, poured 20 of his team-high 22 points in the second frame, including a stretch of 12 in a row for the Patriots when they notched their largest lead at 20, 66-46, with 8:35 minutes remaining.

DBU improves to 10-12 on the campaign and 7-8 in the Heartland Conference as it continues to push toward the final spot in the Heartland Tournament. The Patriots finished one point shy of tying a team-best 93 which was clinched versus Dallas Christian College in November. The Hillcats move to 15-9 and 6-9 in the league following the setback.

In the first five minutes of the opening stanza, the Patriots built a 10-4 lead on a trifecta from junior, Wesley Gipson. RSU closed the gap with a 8-3 run to move the Patriots' edge to 13-12.

A 9-0 spurt by DBU pushed the lead back up to 21-12 for the home squad, capped by a three-pointer by senior, Cory Carden. At the 6:13 mark, the Hillcats clawed back to a 21-17 deficit, but DBU would close the half on a 15-9 run to control the momentum. The Patriots carried a 36-26 advantage into halftime, after a sharp-shooting 58-percent on the floor during the frame.

Out of the break, the home team exchanged baskets to maintain control of the advantage. A three-pointer from Perry at the 14:21 mark opened up DBU's largest lead at that point of the affair at 14. The Heartland Conference's top two scorer produced his flurry of baskets in the ensuing minutes to shift the Patriots' biggest advantage to 20. Things remained in DBU's favor the remainder of regulation as DBU totaled at least 92 points just the second time on the year.

Five players for the Patriots reached double figures. Behind Perry was sophomore, Jason Gentry, contributing a solid 17-point effort. Senior, Remy Ndiaye, and redshirt freshman, Myles Johnson, chipped in 13 apiece. Gipson added 11 off the bench to go along with Perry's nice afternoon as the reserves boasted 39 in the victory.

Perry was one shy of a double-double tying a team-high nine rebounds in the big day for the forward. Junior, Chris Strong, also matched the team scoring leader with nine boards, and Ndiaye was near behind pulling seven off the glass.

DBU outshot the Hillcats 54-percent to 40-percent, and won the rebounding battle 39 to 24. Teams combined for 74 free throw attempts, with the Patriots cashing in a solid 25-for-34 clip for 74-percent. RSU went 27-for-40 to tally a 68-percent average on the afternoon.

A trio of Hillcats posted double-digits in the scoring column led by Dixon Jerry with a game-high 30 points. Deran Banton and Damien Hooks contributed 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Dallas Baptist wraps-up the home portion of its schedule on Monday versus non-conference foe, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Tip-off is slated for 7 PM, and the contest will be Senior Night for the Patriots.
