OPENING TIP – The Dallas Baptist Men's Basketball Team completes the final stretch of the regular season with a three-game road swing. The trio of affairs begins Thursday evening at Oklahoma Christian. Tip-off is slated for 7 PM.

The Patriots enter the week a game out of the final Heartland Conference Tournament seed behind Texas-Permian Basin who defeated the top league team, Texas A&M International, 79-74 last Saturday. DBU did improve in the standings, moving a half-game ahead of St. Edward's who fell 68-65 to McMurry on Saturday. The Hilltoppers are now a game and a half out from UTPB for the fourth tournament spot.

LAST TIME ON THE HARDWOOD – DBU completed the home portion of its schedule with an 81-72 over South Dakota Mines on Monday Evening. The Patriots (11-12, 7-8) closed out home swing with a 3-0 showing to finish 9-6 at the Burg Center in the 2013-14 campaign.

A 12-4 start for the home squad set the tempo of the first half. The Patriots held a single-digit lead most of the frame, but SDSMT did cut the deficit to five with just under two minutes remaining. DBU carried a 38-30 advantage at intermission.

Coming out of the break, the Patriots marched out to a commanding 16-point edge at 52-27, six minutes into the second stanza. The fast-paced outburst was enough despite the Mines late charge reducing the DBU advantage to 73-67 with 1:41 left in regulation. A pair of free throws from redshirt sophomore, Jonathan Perry, and junior, Wesley Gipson, sealed the senior night affair.

Leading the Patriots was redshirt freshman, Myles Johnson, who posted 20 points just one shy of tying a career-high. Sophomore, Jason Gentry, continued his outstanding recent play compiling 15 points, six rebounds, and eight assists in the victory. Gipson and Perry were solid joining double-digits in the scoring column with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

PLAYERS TO WATCH – Perry continues to be the leading scorer on the squad with 411 points and ranks first in the Heartland Conference for total points. The Kerrville, Texas, native also continues to be tops in the league with 17.9 points averaged per game (ppg). He also is shooting well from the charity stripe, boasting the second highest percentage in the conference with an 84.9 clip.

The forward has claimed 21 double-digit scoring performances in 23 games on the campaign, while extending a season-long 13 games in a row to notch the feat. His personal streak also eclipses the lengthiest stretch on a campaign, toppling Nick Fox's 12-game span last year.

Gentry continues his hottest stretch of the season after a 15-point performance on Monday. The guard boasted double figures in all three affairs of the home stand averaging 16.3 a contest, and dished a season-high eight assists. In the first pair of games, he tallied 17 points each tying the second season-highest in the scoring column on the year.

A native of Hondo, Texas, the second-year starter has boasted eight double figure contests, with seven occurring in the past ten games. The recent scoring surge has increased Gentry's points-per-game to a 9.0 clip, which marks a season-best. His 17-point finishes last Thursday and Saturday are five-points short of his season-high, 22 points against Texas A&M Commerce at the Burg Center.

Gipson sparked the Patriots offense off the bench the past couple of games reaching 11 points in both victories. The junior is averaging 8.3 ppg and has broken the double-digit mark eight times off the bench.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES – Oklahoma Christian (7-16, 3-12) fell 74-68 to Arkansas-Fort Smith last Saturday after the Lions closed regulation on a 9-1 run. The setback is the eighth in a row for the Eagles, and second of a three-game home stand.

The team's leading scorer and second in the Heartland behind DBU's Perry is Kendra Talley. The guard has totaled 401 points on the campaign, and knocked down 15 in the loss. John Moon held a game-high 21 points. Nick Tate chipped in 10.

Talley is averaging 17.4 ppg and paces five Eagles in double figures. Tate ranks second on the squad with 14.4 while Willie Harper is right behind with 14.2. Jordan VanDekop follows with 11.3 and Moon has contributed a 10.0 clip.

SERIES HISTORY – The squads met earlier this season with OC nabbing a highly contested 69-65 result at the Burg Center. DBU is 0-3 in the all-time series as it hopes to break into the win column this week. At the time both teams were on long losing skids and the setback was the Patriots fifth of what would be a season-long, six-game slide.

Thursday, the Patriots enter on a four-game streak, and have gone 2-2 in their previous four match-ups. One of the setbacks was a two-point nail-biter that DBU was on the wrong end of.

In the first contest, Perry scored a team-high 16 points with Johnson adding 14. Gipson also tossed in 11 off the bench to round out the double figure scoring trio. Senior Remy, Ndiaye, finished with nine points and 11 rebounds, just shy of a double-double.

The Eagles outshot DBU 49-percent to 40-percent from the floor, but the home team held the edge on the boards, 28-27. OC was led offensively by Talley with 18 and Moon with 15. VanDekop and Harper chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively.

WORTH NOTING:
-Perry notched Heartland Player of the Week Honors for the second time this season after back-to-back 22 point performances in huge conference victories last week.
-The Patriots have gone 7-3 in their last 10 games.
-Saturday's contest at Newman will be broadcasted by CBS Sports.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE – Dallas Baptist continues its last road swing of the campaign on Feb. 22 versus Newman University. The tip is slated at 11:10 AM for a special match-up being televised by CBS that day. The regular season concludes on Feb. 27 at Oklahoma Panhandle with a 7PM start-time on the hardwood.
