Playing in front of a national audience on the CBS Sports Network, the Dallas Baptist Men's Basketball Team knocked off Newman University 66-57 on Saturday. The win for DBU (12-13, 8-9) keeps the Patriots hopes alive for the fourth and final spot in the Heartland Conference Tournament, with one game remaining on the regular season schedule.Â
Â
DBU was led by a 20 point performance from redshirt-freshman,
Myles Johnson, and 13 rebounds and nine points from senior,
Remy Ndiaye. Redshirt-sophomore,
Jonathan Perry, also finished in double-digits with 10 points to go along with eight boards.
Â
Down 30-26 coming out of the locker room in the second half, the Patriots went on a 15-6 run, capped off by a Johnson three-pointer, to take a 41-36 advantage. DBU's lead  would be short-lived though and midway through the second half, the Patriots and Jets were knotted at 46.Â
Â
Another shot from beyond the arc by Johnson, who connected on four-of-six on the day from three-point range, put the Patriots up 49-46. It would be a lead that DBU would not surrender the rest of the way, as the Patriots outscored Newman 20-11 over the final nine minutes.
Â
"I'm really proud of our team today. They responded in the second half and guys really stepped it up on the defensive end," DBU Head Coach, Blake Flicker said. "Newman can be an explosive offensive team, but our guys rose to the challenge. On the offensive end, we had multiple guys make contributions, but Myles especially made some big plays."
Â
DBU shot 43 percent from the field for the game, including a 50 percent performance in the final 20 minutes. Defensively, the Patriots held the Jets to 37 percent shooting on the day and limited Newman to just 3-of-16 from beyond the arc.
Â
In a game that was televised as the NCAA Division II Game of the Week on the CBS Sports Network, DBU and Newman played in front of a sellout crowd at Fugate Gymnasium in Wichita, Kansas. "I think this game was a great opportunity for us to display DBU as a university to a broader audience and to display our love for Jesus," Flickner stated. "I think the guys carried themselves well and I'm proud of how they played for our school and our Lord."

The Patriots wrap-up the regular season next Thursday night on the road at Oklahoma Panhandle State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm.
