OPENING TIP – The Dallas Baptist Men's Basketball Team concludes its 2013-14 regular season with a match-up versus Oklahoma Panhandle State University on Thursday at 7PM. DBU (11-12, 8-9) has a chance to wrap-up its three-game road trip with its second victory in a row and close the campaign with a .500 record.

The Patriots enter Thursday's affair one-and-a-half games out of the final Heartland Conference Tournament seed behind Texas-Permian Basin. UTPB defeated Lubbock Christian 99-84 last Saturday to hold steady in the league standings.

DBU must win to have any chance of keeping its post-season opportunities alive. A defeat automatically will eliminate them from the conference tournament. The Patriots will also need some help from UTPB's opponents this week to also finish in a tie. The Falcons close out their season at home and host St. Edward's on Thursday and McMurry on Saturday.

LAST TIME ON THE HARDWOOD – DBU claimed a tremendous victory in front of a national audience on the CBS Sports Network last Saturday, topping Newman University 66-57. The win was the team's fifth in the past six, and kept the Patriots hopes alive for the fourth spot in the Heartland Conference.

Redshirt freshman, Myles Johnson, continued his hot road trip pouring a team-high 20 points for the consecutive time on the court. The Arlington, Texas, native has notched double-digit performances in the past three contests.

The two-time Heartland Player of the Week, Jonathan Perry, slipped into double figures with 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Senior, Remy Ndiaye, also came shy of a double-double with nine points and a team-best 13 boards. Sophomore, Jason Gentry, chipped in eight points in the televised victory.

Trailing 30-26 at halftime, the Patriots rattled off a 15-6 run, capped off by a Johnson three-pointer, to take a 41-36 edge. Johnson connected on four-of-six from three-point range on the day, and another trifecta by the team-leader would put DBU ahead 49-46 after the Jets responded to the early run by eventually knotting the contest at 46.

The Patriots shot 43-percent from the game, and 50-percent in the second stanza of a strong match-up. DBU played excellent defense limiting the Jets to just 37-percent from the field and going 3-for-16 beyond the arc.

LEADING THE WAY – Perry continues to be the leading scorer on the squad with 432 points and tops the Heartland Conference for total points. The Kerrville, Texas, native is second in the league with 17.3 points averaged per game (ppg). He also is shooting well from the charity stripe, boasting the highest percentage on the squad with an 84.2 clip, which is also fourth in the Heartland.

The redshirt sophomore has claimed 23 double-digit scoring performances in 25 games on the campaign, while extending a program-long 15 games in a row to notch the feat.

Recently doing well on the past three contests is the shooting forward, Johnson. In the last pair of road affairs, the team's third-leading scorer has boasted team-highs each eclipsing 20 points, just short of his career best.

He has been able to break into the scoring column with double figures 13 times total this season, including a season-long five games in a row in January. Johnson also clinched the feat six of seven contests during the span.

Sitting second on the team in scoring is senior, Remy Ndiaye, with 269 points altogether this year, and is averaging 10.8 a game. Most of the forward's damage has come at the Burg Center, home of the Patriots, but Ndiaye was a force in both of DBU's two huge wins on the previous road trip. He totaled 18 points, a season-high away from the friendly confines, in a victory at St. Edward's, and 16 for a monumental victory at Texas-Permian Basin a little over a week later.

SCOUTING OPSU – The Aggies (2-24, 2-14) have lost four-straight, but have won all their contests in the home arena known as the Oscar Williams Field House in Goodwell, Oklahoma. The latest match-up for Oklahoma Panhandle was a 94-64 final to Arkansas-Fort Smith.

Pacing the offense for OPSU, which is averaging 76.4 a game, is Jeremy Newton with 14.6 a contest. He has been successful shooting in conference contests, sinking shots at a 17.9 clip. Also doing well is Bill Lee Jr. compiling a 14.2 average overall and 15.1 in the league. Rounding out the trio is Zilijan Jones with 13.0 ppg and 13.4 against conference foes.

SERIES HISTORY – The squads met earlier this season with the Patriots triumphing at the Burg Center, 73-62. The win snapped a six-game slide at the time for DBU, who utilized a strong second half to put the visiting Aggies away.

Johnson had a career-high 21 points, the second time the redshirt freshman dialed up that many baskets in a game. Including him, a quartet of DBU players recorded double-digit scoring performances including Perry and Gentry with 14 apiece. Ndiaye added 10 and grabbed eight boards in the win.

In the all-time series DBU has gone 11-3 versus the Aggies, and have won the previous seven meetings. The last time the Patriots fell to OPSU was in 2010 at Goodwell, Oklahoma, by a 93-87 result.
