DBU Closes Out Regular Season With Win at OPSU

Box Score

The Dallas Baptist Men's Basketball Team completed the 2014 regular season with a 79-71 win on the road at Oklahoma Panhandle State on Thursday night.  DBU redshirt freshman, Myles Johnson, continued his strong end of season performance, leading the Patriots (13-13) with a career-high 24 points.  It marks the third consecutive game in which Johnson has recorded 20 or more points.

In a game that saw DBU get off to a sluggish start, OPSU (2-25) led for the majority of the first half.  Trailing by as many as seven points with 6:51 remaining in the first half, the Patriots rattled off three buckets from beyond the arc, with two coming from Johnson and the other from sophomore, Jason Gentry to take a two-point lead.  The Aggies would respond with the final four points of the half to take a 28-26 led into the locker room.

Coming out of the break, OPSU would extend their lead to six in the first two minutes of the second half.  The Patriots would reclaim the lead when freshman, Jordan Pratt, drained a three.  The bucket was part of Pratt's season-high 13 points on the night.

After a dunk by OPSU's, Bill Lee, tied the game at 36 apiece, DBU would reclaim the lead on a Pratt layup and would never look back.  For the final 15 minutes, the Patriots never surrendered the lead, outscoring the Aggies 43-35.
"Tonight our guys really scrapped on the road," DBU Head Coach, Blake Flickner said.  "Myles stepped up and made some big shots and Remy was really tough on the boards.  I'm also pleased with how we handled their pressure late to finish the game."

DBU dominated OPSU from the field, shooting 53 percent, including 10-of-26 from three-point range.  The Aggies connected on just 6-of-25 from beyond the arc.  The Patriots also won the battle on the boards, outrebounding OPSU 38-31.

Four players scored in double-digits for the Patriots, headlined by Johnson's 24.  Pratt added 13, while Gentry and Jonathan Perry each went for 10.  Playing in the final regular season game of his career, senior, Remy Ndiaye, pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds to go along with eight points.  It marked the ninth time this year that Ndiaye has recorded double-digit figures in the rebound column.

The victory marks the team's seventh win in the last 10 games.  "We finished the regular season well over the last 10 games and we're playing our best basketball of the year right now," Flickner remarked.

DBU now looks towards the NCCAA Regional Tournament held March 13-15, hosted by Oklahoma Christian.  It will be the team's third appearance in the NCCAA Tournament in the last four years.  The Patriots won the NCCAA National Tournament in 2010.
