OPENING TIP – The Dallas Baptist Men's Basketball Team looks to salvage a .500 finish on its four-game road stint that ends Saturday at Texas-Permian Basin. Tip-off is slated for 2 PM as the Patriots have dropped their last two.

DBU fell to 7-12 on the campaign and 4-8 in the Heartland Conference following a 74-52 loss Thursday at Lubbock Christian.

LAST TIME OUT – The Patriots moved to 1-2 on the road swing and have lost two in a row after scoring a season-low 52 points on the night at LCU. After opening up with a four point lead on a three-pointer by senior, Cory Carden, at the midway point of the first half, DBU would never hold an edge again in the contest. The Chaps closed the first frame on a 27-15 run, shooting 58-percent from the field.

Trailing 37-29 coming out of the break, the Patriots pulled within five, thanks to Carden's second trifecta on the evening. LCU responded with an 8-0 run and controlled the tempo the rest of regulation.

Redshirt sophomore, Jonathan Perry, was the lone DBU player in double figures dropping in 10 points in the setback. LCU's, Anthony Brancato, paced the offense for the Chaps recording a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

KEY PLAYERS – Perry continues to be the leading scorer on the squad with 337 points and moves to third in the Heartland Conference for total points. The Kerrville, Texas, native entered his third consecutive week tops in the league with 18.2 points averaged per game (ppg).

The forward has claimed 17 double-digit scoring performances in 19 games on the campaign, while extending a season-long nine games in a row to notch the feat. In his second season, Perry continues to impress as he has boasted 20 or more points in six contests, including his record-breaking 47 points versus Southeastern Oklahoma State. The team-leader also eclipsed a season-high in road games with 22 points. His previous high was 21 points at Texas A&M Commerce.

Junior, Wesley Gipson, has been a force off the bench in the first pair of contests on this road trip, contributing 13 points in each one. The native of Fort Worth, Texas has totaled 123 of his 125 points from the bench to lead DBU in that category.

Prior to Thursday's loss at LCU, his most recent performances added to six results where the guard finished scoring in double-digits. Gipson clinched a season-high 19 points in a 61-59 triumph over Lubbock Christian at the Burg Center.

Another guard to eye is Jason Gentry. The sophomore has boasted double figures in four of the past six games and is averaging a season best 8.1 ppg. A native of Hondo, Texas, Gentry has started all 19 of the Patriots' affairs and recent string has given him six contests with double-digits in the scoring column. He clinched a career-high 22 points in a 92-88 loss against Texas A&M Commerce at the Burg Center earlier on the campaign.

SCOUTING UTPB – The Falcons snapped a three-game losing streak on Thursday at home over Oklahoma Christian, 74-65. Texas-Permian Basin maintains possession of the fourth and final seed of the Heartland Tournament with a 13-7 overall record, and 7-5 showing in league play.

UTPB held a commanding 40-21 advantage going into intermission, but a cold start to the second stanza pulled the Eagles within seven points at 46-39. Madison Turner for the Falcons pushed the edge back to double-digits with a pair of free throws and a layup two possessions later. The lead for the home squad hovered around the 10-point mark most of the second half.

In the final minutes of regulation, Oklahoma Christian rallied a 9-0 spurt to get within a single possession just under four minutes remaining. However, Turner hit another three-pointer on the next play and UTPB closed out the affair to halt the slide.

Five players pace the Falcon's offense with double figure performances led by Dwayne Soders averaging 16.4 points a game. Thomas Feeney follows with 14.8 while Anthony Dees is boasting a 13.8 clip. Rounding out the group are Madison Turner and Phadarius Taylor with 11.9 and 11.3 ppg, respectively.

SERIES HISTORY – Both programs met earlier in the campaign with Texas-Permian Basin claiming an 80-66 victory at the Burg Center back in December. It was the Falcon's conference opener and DBU's second match-up in league action, so they fell to 1-1 at the time.

Despite a seemly lopsided affair, the Patriots were actually locked in a tie 29-29 at halftime. A 16-3 run out of the break proved to be too costly for DBU, as its efforts to narrow the deficit went for naught throughout the second frame.

Senior, Remy Ndiaye, poured a career-high 27 points in the game, while Perry joined him in the double-digit scoring column with 15. Sophomore, Charles Allen, grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

Five players posted double figures for the Falcons, helping the team shoot 56-percent in the second half. Taylor paced the offense with a team-best 22 points, while Soders clinched a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards.

Entering the year, the Patriots were 8-6 all-time verses UTPB, and pulled a 2-0 season series sweep on the Falcons in the 2012-13 campaign. Last time at Odessa, Texas, DBU prevailed 69-64. Carden's three-pointer with 1:02 left in regulation put the final dagger in the Falcon's comeback hopes as the visiting squad went up 61-56. The Patriots iced the game with free throws down the stretch.

Carden joined a quartet of double figure scorers in the affair with 10 total points. He was the only returner on this year's roster to notch that feat in the win.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE – Dallas Baptist begins its final home stand of the 2013-14 campaign on Feb. 13 with UA Fort Smith. Tip-off is slated at 7 PM.  Feb. 15 the Patriots take on another Heartland Conference foe, Rogers State, at 2 PM, before wrapping up the set of match-ups at the Burg Center on Feb. 17.

That Monday contest will feature a non-conference opponent, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, snapping a string of 13-straight league foes opposing DBU. Tip is scheduled for 7 PM. Following the trio of home games, the Patriots will conclude their season with three away contests in a row.
