THE LEADThe Dallas Baptist Men's Soccer Team wraps up a five-game road trip Tuesday, September 22 at Ouachita Baptist University. Kickoff is slated at 4 PM.
Â
DBU (2-4) has dropped its last three matches in a row, a season-long, and hopes to right the ship before enjoying a four-game home stand.
Â
Both of the Patriots' victories have been decided by a goal, its latest coming in an overtime decision, 4-3, at Southern Nazarene on September 23.
Â
MOST RECENT ACTION Â
A 1-0 result occurred last Thursday for DBU, who were unable to get more than seven shots off in the contest. West Texas A&M benefited from a penalty kick in the 16
th minute by Vitor Cardoso.
Â
His game-winner was enough to clinch the affair for the Buffs.
Â
Junior
Alex Becerra had a team-high, two shots with one on goal. Also tallying shots in the setback were juniors
Cameron Gilbert,
Brian Robertson,
Leevi Schwartz, sophomore
Riley Alvey, and freshman
Michael Andrews.
Â
Drawing his second start of the year was junior
Chuck Schober. The goalkeeper completed 90 minutes, allowing the one penalized score and grabbed five saves. Â
Â
IMPACT PLAYERSLeading the way for the Patriots is redshirt sophomore
Landon Lacy and Alvey. The duo share team-highs with two goals and five points. Alvey has notched both of his goals on this lengthy road trip.
Â
The first was the game-tying netter in an eventual overtime victory at Southern Nazarene. The forward only needs one more score to match his career total in 2013. Also in his first season, Alvey compiled eight points, and is four away from surpassing that mark.
Â
Lacy rounds out a trio of players that have taken double-digit shots on the season. The Hallsville, Texas, native has 10 this season and is 21 away from 50 in his career. He contributed a goal in the team's road victory at SNU, but his big highlight occurred in the season-opener.
Â
With the match knotted 1-1, Lacy's shot off a deflection counted as the game-winner at the 85 minute mark. The forward ranks third on the active roster with six career goals.
Â
WORTH NOTINGLast year's leading scorer, Robertson, has contributed on the field in other methods.
Â
The midfielder boasts a single game-high, two assists, including partaking in the game-winner by sophomore
Brandon O'Donovan in the extra frame last week. The native of Midlothian, Texas, has taken 13 shots, tying him with Alvey.
Â
Sophomore
Mason Stringer has earned four starts in the goalkeeper position for the Patriots. He is a win away (2-2) from tying his career number set in 2013. The keeper has combined for 19 saves and faced 64 shots.
Â
In road affairs, the native of Burleson, Texas has faced at least 20 attempts from the opposition. Stringer has worked a career 967:38 minutes and has played in 11 total.
Â
After going 3-6 in contests determined by one goal, including two overtime losses, in 2013, DBU has notched a 2-2 record in the current campaign. The lone match in extra regulation was a victory for the Patriots.
Â
SCOUTING OUACHITA BAPTISTThe Tigers (2-5) won last Saturday over McMurry University 3-0. The team had fallen in three-straight games, including the two previous by one goal. OBU has faced three opponents out of the Heartland Conference, and remains winless.
Â
Former member of the same league, McMurry, was the first win for the Tigers at home, where they're 1-1 entering Tuesday.
Â
Leading the offense for Ouachita with three goals and six points is Blake Beshirs. He has been accurate on the target; tallying six shots total and boasts a 1.000 Shot on goal percentage.
Â
Logan Hampton and Ryan Trayner each have contributed a pair of goals and broke double-digits in the shot category. Hampton guides a team-high 16, while Trayner is behind with 11.
Â
David Henley has been tabbed the majority of minutes in the net for OBU, compiling 585 minutes, 17 goals allowed, 26 saves, and has faced 90 shots
Â
SERIES HISTORYBoth programs have met once on the pitch since 2012 when Dallas Baptist became affiliated at Division II. That happened last season, with the Patriots dropping a 3-2 decision at home.
Â
DBU shattered a franchise record with 28 shots and a team-best at the time, nine shots on goal. The Tigers matched the home squad with nine on target, but nipped them at the end with a game-winner at the 64:33 mark by OBU's Brandon Horn.
Robertson took advantage of a free kick that beat goalkeeper, Henley, at the 12 minute mark to knot things at 1-1. OBU would get a goal from Trayner to take a 2-1 edge going into the break.
Â
Gilbert finished a nice scoring sequence off a pass from junior
Matthew Buckwalter in the 56
th minute to force an even result on the scoreboard again. It lasted a little less than 10 minutes, as the Tiger's game-winner spoiled a nice match for DBU, where they had a historical offensive output.
Â
Current members of the roster that had excellent shooting days were Robertson with a game-high, five. Sophomore
Brandon O'Donovan added three and Buckwalter tacked on two, with one counting for on goal.
Â
UP NEXTDallas Baptist enjoys a season-long, four-game home stand with a non-conference match beginning the span on September 27 versus McMurry. Kickoff is slated at 7 PM.
