Box Score THE LEADPlaying in their third straight road conference game, Dallas Baptist fell 77-57 to the St. Mary's Rattlers at the Bill Greehey Arena in San Antonio on Saturday. Down just six points at the half, DBU (10-7, 7-3) was outscored 39-25 over the final 20 minutes to drop their second consecutive Heartland Conference game. The loss marks the first time this year that the Patriots have dropped back-to-back games.
Myles Johnson led DBU's scoring efforts, totaling 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field.Â
Amari Bryant joined Johnson in double-digits, adding 11 points off the bench.
After falling behind by as many as eight points in the game's first 11 minutes, DBU went on a 12-3 run, capped off by a Johnson three-pointer to take a 23-22 lead with 5:33 to go in the half. Another Johnson shot from downtown put the Patriots up by three two minutes later, before St. Mary's (10-7, 7-3) closed the half on an 11-2 run to take a 38-32 lead into the locker room at the half.
Coming out of the break, a pair of free throws from
Tim Simmons, in the opening seconds of the second half, brought DBU to within four, before the Rattlers turned on the heat. Another 11-2 run by St. Mary's extended the Rattlers lead to 13 with 16:02 to play. By the midway point, St. Mary's went up by 20 after a pair of free throws from Marvin Binney.Â
Over the final 10 minutes, DBU was unable to draw any closer than 16 points, as St. Mary's cruised to their third straight conference win. Leading the way for the Rattlers was Marvin Binney and Bryce Smith, who each scored 13 points on the afternoon.
