THE LEADThe Dallas Baptist Baseball Team snapped a two game losing streak with a dominant 16-0 win over Oral Roberts on Friday at J.L. Johnson Stadium in Tulsa, Oklahoma. An 11 run fifth inning that included two home runs by
Trooper Reynolds, broke the game open, while
Joseph Shaw pitched a gem on the hill, tossing seven scoreless innings.
Reynolds two home runs in the fifth were part of a performance that tied a school record for RBI's in a game with nine. The DBU  junior etches his name in the Patriot record book, making it the eighth time in school history that a player has driven in nine runs in a single game. The last time a DBU player delivered nine RBI's in a game came on February 15, 2014, when
Camden Duzenack knocked in nine runs against Mississippi Valley State.
While Reynolds provided the offensive fireworks, DBU starter,
Joseph Shaw was dazzling on the mound, throwing a career-high seven innings without allowing a run. The Patriots' right-hander allowed just three hits and threw only 68 pitches, as he faced the minimum over seven innings, before giving way to
Gavin Fritz out of the bullpen.
In a game that was scoreless in the top of the second inning, DBU (7-2) struck for the game's first two runs when Reynolds put the Patriots on top with an RBI single off of Oral Roberts' starter, Guillermo Trujillo. A sacrifice fly by Chance Lynch would plate Reynolds later in the inning to make it 2-0.
After
Nash Knight drove in a run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly that plated
Tagg Duce, Trujillo walked the bases loaded to start the fifth. With the bases full, Reynolds delivered his second home run of the year with a grand slam that cleared the left field wall to extend the Patriot lead to 7-0.
ORU (6-4) would not be able to record an out before the Patriots' batted through the order and opened up an 11-0 advantage. With two on and Reynolds back up again in the fifth, DBU's designated hitter blasted another shot over the wall in left to give him two home runs and seven RBI's in the inning.
Up 14-0 through five, the Patriots added two more runs in the seventh, before Fritz came out of the bullpen to close out the Golden Eagles. The shutout is the first of the season for DBU and the first shutout of Oral Roberts since the 1990 season. That year, the Patriots shutout the Golden Eagles in back-to-back games.
DBU HEAD COACH, DAN HEEFNER – ON THE OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION & TROOPER'S RECORD"Trooper had a great game and we had guys on base all night for him when he came up. This was really a total team effort though.   I thought the guys made the exact adjustment they needed to make after the last game, especially in situations where we had runners in scoring position and less than two outs."
