KICK-OFF
The Dallas Baptist University Women's Soccer Team defeated No. 9 St. Edward's in penalty kicks, 5-4, in the Heartland Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday afternoon at Lewis-Chen Family Field in Austin, Texas. Errica Everson scored the gamewinning penalty kick on First Team All-Heartland Conference goalkeeper Lorrie Santoy to win the conference championship.
 
After the Patriots and Hilltoppers were held scoreless through 110 minutes of play, the teams went into the first penalty shootout in Heartland Conference Championship history. Entering the fifth round of penalty kicks, DBU and St. Edward's were tied at four apiece. Goalkeeper Hope Koym saved Whytneigh Duff's attempt, allowing Everson to make hers to give the Patriots the victory. Koym made seven saves in the match, including three in penalty kicks, and Santoy made two saves for the Hilltoppers.
 
The Patriots look to win their sixth straight match when they take on No. 23 CSU-Pueblo  in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at Stermole Stadium in Golden, Colorado.
 
PATRIOT STORYLINES
 - The winner of Thursday's match will face No. 6 Colorado School of Mines in the second round of the South Central Regional on Saturday.
 
 - A win would give DBU their second six-game win streak of the season.
 
  - Hope Koym has only allowed one goal in the last five matches. 
 
 - The Patriots' win in the Heartland Conference Championship was their first win over a ranked team this season (1-5 vs. NSCAA Top-25).
 
 - DBU is one of 15 schools to advance to the NCAA Tournament five out of the last six seasons.
 
SCOUTING CSU-PUEBLO
The Thunderwolves earned an at-large bid for the South Central Regional after falling to Colorado School of Mines in the RMAC Conference Championship, 2-1. CSU-Pueblo handed the Orediggers their first loss of the season in October in a 2-0 affair in Pueblo, Colorado.
 
Laikyn Koss, the team leader in goals (12), scored five goals in three RMAC Conference Tournament matches. On the defensive side, the Thunderwolves are led by First Team All-RMAC defenders Megan Garcia and Rianna Lockhart. Goalkeeper Alison Darr made 30 saves in 10 starts, allowing only seven goals and recording five shutouts.
 
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the first meeting between the two schools.
