DBU Edges Grambling State, 7-6, in Extra Innings

THE LEAD
DBU earned their fifth straight series win as they defeated Grambling State, 7-6, on Saturday afternoon at Horner Ballpark. Tim Millard delivered the walk-off sac fly in the bottom of the 10th inning

Seth Elledge (1-1) earned the win after pitching the final 2 2/3 innings of the game, allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts. Daniel Beizer (3-2) suffered the loss after giving up the gamewinning run in the bottom of the 10th inning to cap off his 2 2/3 inning outing.

Grambling State got on the board first on a Daniel Barnett RBI double to deep left field, but DBU answered in the bottom of the inning with a RBI infield single off the bat of Matt Duce. The Tigers threatened in the second with runners on second and third, but Conn forced a fly out to left to end the inning. In the fourth, Grambling State regained the lead after Kristian Franklin scored on a fielding error by Tim Millard. Following another error that allowed Wesley Drain to reach base, coach Dan Heefner went to his bullpen for the first time for Jimmy Fouse, who began his outing by allowing an RBI single to Barnett to extend the Tiger lead to 3-1. Fouse struck out Travarus Bell to escape the jam and end the inning.

The Patriots responded again in the bottom of the fourth on a pair of RBI singles from Camryn Williams and Luke Bandy to even the score at 3 all. Grambling State got one across in the fifth by way of an RBI single from Franklin. DBU got their first lead of the ballgame with a pair of runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-out RBI double by Tim Millard to make it 5-4. After Travis Stone tossed 2 1/3 innings of scoreless, one-hit baseball, Seth Elledge came in to convert the five-out save. The Tigers tied the game in the eighth on a sacrifice fly to deep center that allowed Ian Bailey to score.

In the top of the 10th inning, Grambling State scored the go-ahead run on a Marshawn Taylor RBI single. The Patriots threatened in the bottom of the inning after a Luke Stratman single put runners on the corners with one out. Devlin Granberg came in as a pinch hitter, delivering an RBI single to tie the game at 6-6. On the next at-bat, Tim Millard hit a sac fly to right field, allowing Stratman to score.

COACH DAN HEEFNER – ON EXECUTING THE GAMEWINNING 10TH INNING
"I think just an outstanding example of character. We've seen them do that now two times this year where it's a blow to a gut to go down late like that, but then to bounce right back. Duzenack works a walk there, showing some good patience. Stratman, with two strikes on him, stays on that ball. Granberg Tim Millard had a great approach there too. Bases loaded and he needs to get something up in the air. He got a pitch up in the zone. All those guys executed their jobs to perfection."

DEVLIN GRANBERG – ON HIS GAME-TYING PINCH-HIT SINGLE IN THE 10TH
"Coach just came up to me and said 'Hit a double right here.' He's been on us the past couple games about seeing that fastball first pitch. He threw it and I was fortunate enough to hit a line drive there."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
12 – DBU's pitching staff forced the Tigers to strand 12 on base.
3 – Camden Duzenack has now scored three runs in three games this season.
18 – Matt Duce has reached base safely in all 18 games this season.
