THE LEAD
The DBU Patriots' (35-19, 14-6) offense pieced together large innings against the Evansville Purple Aces (17-36, 8-11) on Friday night at Braun Stadium on their way to a mercy-rule shortened final score of 17-6.
Jordan Martinson picked up the win and
Travis Stone threw two scoreless innings of relief as the Patriot offense had three different innings of three runs or more and five different starters collected multi-hit games.
Austin Listi led the way with a two-home run game and
Camden Duzenack ended a single short of the cycle while collecting six RBI.
Â
The teams exchanged runs in the first inning, both by way of solo homeruns.
Austin Listi lifted his 18th of the season with two outs in the top of the first and Kenton Crews answered with a one-out shot in the bottom of the inning.
Â
The teams traded scoreless innings in the second before the DBU offense erupted in the third inning. Listi etched his name in the DBU record book with his 48th career home run, a three-run blast to left field to give the Patriots the lead. Listi tied Duncan McAlpine atop the career leaderboard with the swing and sparked a DBU offense that went on to score seven runs in the frame.
Evan Sandmann followed Listi's homerun three batters later with an RBI double and
Camden Duzenack slugged his 13th home run, a three-run shot to left.
Â
The Purple Aces answered with five runs on six hits in the bottom of the third inning to cut into the DBU lead before DBU regained a five run advantage in the fifth with three runs on three hits, highlighted by Duzenack's two-RBI triple to score Sandmann and
Tim Millard.
Camryn Williams helped the cause with a deep fly out to center that easily scored Duzenack.
Â
The Patriots tacked on six runs in the seventh inning against the Evansville bullpen as five different hitters collected RBI, including
Logan Sepanek on a two-strike, pinch hit single to score two.
