THE RUNDOWN
DBU failed in its attempt at a season sweep of TCU, falling 4-0 Wednesday at Lupton Stadium in Fort Worth. Walks and errors factored in all four Horned Frog runs.
Devlin Granberg led off the game with a single but was picked off before Jimmy Glowenke doubled down the left field line.
Jordan Martinson scattered five hits through three innings in his fifth start of 2018 and his longest outing since his first start of the season. Two bunt singles and a throwing error by Jarod Bayless set up an RBI single to give TCU (24-18) a 1-0 lead. Bayless escaped further damage in the fifth, thanks in part to a successful fake-to-third, look-to-first move.
The game would remain 1-0 until the seventh inning, when Peyton Sherlin walked both batters he faced to start the bottom of the frame. An RBI single to right, a run-scoring double play, and an error by Blayne Jones allowed three TCU runs to score.
The Patriots (28-15) collected two hits across the final six innings of the game. TCU would score its final three runs in the bottom of the eighth on two hits and three walks. A pair of Horned Frog errors helped DBU get runners on first and second before the ninth-inning rally fizzled.
