THE LEAD
DBU collected a season-high 14 hits, and Jordan Martinson excelled for a third straight week in a 7-1 win over Houston Baptist to kick off a double header Friday. Martinson limited HBU (4-5) to one run on five hits with eight strikeouts and one walk in seven innings.
The Patriots (6-3) took the lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Jackson Glenn. After the Huskies tied the game in the third, Bryce Ball's first home run as a Patriot put DBU back in front, clearing the left field fence in the fourth inning. Hunter Vansau drove in two with a single later in the frame.
DBU added three insurance runs in the eighth with a two-run double by Blayne Jones and another RBI single by Glenn.
Kragen Kechely finished the game with two scoreless innings of relief to earn the save.
