No. 21 DBU, Wrobleski Walk-off Gonzaga in Sunday Finale, 8-7

THE RUNDOWN
No. 21 DBU (5-2) defeated Gonzaga (4-4) with a ninth inning walk-off RBI-single from Ryan Wrobleski in the Sunday finale, 8-7. With the win, the Patriots earned their fifth win of the season and split the four-game set with an aggressive Gonzaga squad.

A seesaw affair the entire way, the Patriots started the scoring with a pair of runs in the first inning courtesy of an RBI-single from Blayne Jones and a wild pitch. Gonzaga would fight back, however, scoring the next four runs to take a 4-2 lead into the fourth inning.

It was the Patriots' turn to respond through the middle frames as DBU would tack on four runs of their own. River Town singled home a run in the fourth, followed by Cole Moore and Blayne Jones who each drove in a run in the sixth and seventh, respectively. Jace Grady also worked a bases loaded walk in the seventh to extend the lead to 6-4.

In the eighth, both teams traded wild pitches. First, Gonzaga added two to the board via a wild pitch and a passed ball. In the bottom half, Wrobleski came home to score on a wild offering from the Zags. The oddities continued in the ninth, when Gonzaga once again tied the ballgame on a balk.

In the end, however, the Patriots summoned their first version of Horner Heroics in 2021 as Ryan Wrobleski blasted the game winning single into center field.

HEAD COACH DAN HEEFNER ON THE WIN
"You've heard it said that baseball is a game where you can something new every game. We saw several things that were new in that game. It was just an incredible job by our guys to compete and battle. To score in the sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth is a big deal for us. We needed this, to face a lot of adversity [and to respond]. We've got a good team and we've got good guys...we need to up our competitiveness and we saw that this weekend."
