THE RUNDOWN
The Patriots fell on Friday night to Oral Roberts, 10-7, behind a six-run seventh inning. The Golden Eagles (5-8) hit the ball well all night long, amassing their ten runs on ten hits. DBU (8-4) attempted a late rally in the bottom of the frame, but ultimately came up short.
Oral Roberts scored first in the second when a home run from Caleb Denny rode the wind over the left field wall. River Town answered in the third inning when he belted the first pitch he saw over the left field wall as well. The Golden Eagles would add two more in the fourth and one more in the sixth, carving out a 4-1 lead.
The Patriots responded with their biggest inning of the night, plating four runs to take the lead. With the bases loaded and Cole Moore up, Moore sliced a fly ball down the left field line that dropped in front of the defender. Two runs would score and the Pats were within one. River Town then laced a ball past a sliding Adam Oviedo to tie the game at 4-4. Jackson Glenn would give the Pats the lead on a 3-0 count when he produced a sacrifice fly.
In the seventh, however, the train came off the tracks for the Patriots. ORU answered the Pats' four-run inning with a six-run response. Nico Burgarello would lift his first career home run as a Patriot over the left field wall, but it wouldn't be enough in the end.
