THE RUNDOWN
DBU improved to 2-0 at the Frisco College Baseball Classic after beating the Missouri Tigers (3-7), 8-0. The Patriots (7-2) were victorious behind a career performance from Dominic Hamel as the right-hander struck out 13 batters through six innings. The 13 strikeouts topped a previous high of 10 Ks, which Hamel had reached in 2020 against UNC, as well as last weekend against Gonzaga.
At the plate, the Patriots only needed three innings to compile their eight runs. DBU pushed runs across in the third, fifth, and ninth innings. The scoring began when Austin Bell drove in Jeffrey David on a hit and run. One batter later, a double steal by the Patriots forced an errant throw and Jackson Glenn would come home on the play. Blayne Jones would score on a passed ball moments later.
Austin Bell notched two more RBI in the fifth inning when he belted a two-run home run over the lazy river in right field. It was Bell's second big fly of 2021. DBU scored their final three runs in the ninth when River Town was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded. Jackson Glenn would single home two more runs in the next at bat.
On the mound, Dominic Hamel was nothing short of sensational. Hamel went six shutout innings, allowed only two hits, and fanned 13. In fact, Hamel only allowed seven total batted balls all night (2 hits, 2 fly outs, 3 ground outs). Dominic accomplished all of this on 96 pitches and received a standing ovation for his efforts from the Patriot faithful in attendance.
DBU was flawless the rest of the way as well, as Peyton Sherlin and Luke Trahan breezed through the remaining three innings. They did not allow a hit.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- DBU now leads the all-time series against Missouri, two games to one.
- Tonight's win was the first shutout of the season for the Patriots.
- The two hits allowed ties the fewest number an opposing team has collected in a game. The Patriots also allowed just two base hits against Austin Peay in the series finale.

HEAD COACH DAN HEEFNER ON THE WIN
"Well pitching gives you confidence and it's pretty easy to be confident behind Dominic Hamel. When he's out there on the mound, we feel really great about our team. He's got a great presence, great mentality, and great stuff. Peyton did a great job following him. I thought our offense did a great job of creating runs. The baserunning was good, we were able to steal some bases and put pressure on them."
