No. 1 Patriot Earn 10th Win of the Year, Defeat St. Mary's 2-1

THE RUNDOWN
No. 1 DBU topped St. Mary's by a score of 2-1 Wednesday afternoon in San Antonio, Texas. A first-half goal from Rachel Allen and a second-half strike from Annie Severide helped take down an STMU (9-3-2, 4-2-1 LSC) defense that had gone three weeks without surrendering a goal. The gritty road win lifts DBU(10-1-1, 4-1-1 LSC) into first place in the Lone Star Conference standings.

A goal in the 13th minute gave the Patriots the lead. But it would be another second-half adjustment from coach Marcus Wood and a goal from Annie Severide that would win the match. It was Kaleigh Naizer who got the scoring going when she placed a corner kick onto the leg of Rachel Allen for a quick, one-touch goal that put the Patriots out in front.

The 1-0 lead turned into a 2-0 advantage in the 57th minute. Freshman Angelina Olmos found Annie Severide while darting down the right side of the pitch. The young forward rifled a quick pass over to Severide, who took a few dribbles before pulling up from deep and blasting an incredible, arcing shot that snuck under the top crossbar and over the hands of STMU goalkeeper Rebecca Difronzo.

The Rattlers made things interesting with a goal off a penalty kick in the 60th minute. But the Patriots refused to give up the equalizer, leaning on their defense to bleed out the clock and secure the victory.
