THE RUNDOWN
DBU finished on the wrong side of a 1-0 contest Saturday afternoon at West Texas A&M. The Patriots and Buffs battled back and forth in a scoreless affair before a Dylan Watson goal in the 74th minute won the day for West Texas A&M. The shutout keeps WT undefeated in conference play (4-2-7, 2-0-3 LSC) and cools off a Patriots team that had been playing its best soccer of the season.Â
DBU (4-5-4, 3-2 LSC) goalkeeper Alexander Knepper stayed busy with five saves in the first half. But the Patriots managed just one shot on frame against a Buffs defense that refuses to give up goals at home. West Texas A&M broke open the scoreless stalemate midway through the second half when Sam Scarth and Denis Herrera found the foot of Dylan Watson for the go-ahead strike.Â
The Patriots got their best look at the back of the net in the 84th minute. Freshman Gavyn Rosales punched a shot toward the bottom center of the frame that Asaf Kristal scooped up to preserve the clean sheet for WT.Â
