THE RUNDOWN
A DBU offense that's threatened to erupt over the last few matches finally did so in a 6-0 dismantlement of Oklahoma Christian on Wednesday. Six different players found the back of the net to secure an undefeated season at home for No. 1 DBU (12-1-1, 8-1-1 LSC). The win is the Patriots' fifth straight and highest-scoring match of the season.
The DBU defense that allowed zero shots on target to Eastern New Mexico on Saturday turned in another dominant performance, conceding just one shot on frame to an overwhelmed Oklahoma Christian attack. It was another strong showing for
Adrianna Schroeder, who went 72 minutes deep for DBU's third consecutive shutout before handing goalkeeper duties over to
Samantha Jones.
Annie Severide opened the scoring column in the 27th minute, punching in the go-ahead goal on a one-touch pass from
Joeli Benson. Six minutes later, the Patriots struck a second time in the form of a
Sophia Schrock header on a pass from
Ella McQuaid.
Staked to a 2-0 lead at the break, the Patriots scratched three more across in the final frame.
Kaleigh Naizer found the back of the net 10 minutes into the second half on an
Angelina Olmos assist. The match was then put firmly out of reach on a
Kathryn Mullis strike in the 60th minute.
Goals from
Karlee Torisk and
Ava Dinverno further buried the Eagles and lifted the Patriots to their highest-scoring win of the year.
