Men's Soccer Shines in 3-0 Win over Eastern New Mexico

THE RUNDOWN
The Patriots rolled over the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds, 3-0,  Saturday afternoon at Patriot Soccer Field. DBU outshot the visiting team 26-5, and Ethan Unger scored twice in one of the most impressive performances this season. The win is DBU's (3-4-4, 2-1 LSC) second straight at home and slows down an ENMU (4-4-1, 1-2 LSC) squad that had won three of its last four games.

DBU came out of the gates sharp and decisive, winning the 50/50 balls and controlling possession to set the tone for the match. Greyhounds goalkeeper Paul Waschkau fell under an early siege, staving off a few attacks before a cluster of shots gave DBU the lead in the 18th minute. Marshall Dickson launched a shot that rattled off the left post and onto the foot of Peyton Voelker, who fired a dart toward the right half of the net that was just barely saved by Waschkau. But the ENMU defense would not survive the third attack, as Ethan Unger punched one through bottom center to take a 1-0 lead.

The Patriots appeared even more dominant in the second half. Gifted with a penalty kick in the 52nd minute, Peyton Voelker doubled up the lead with a goal stung inside the left post. The intensity of the Patriot offense was matched by its defensive effort on the other side of the pitch. Eastern New Mexico was held to three shots in the final 45 minutes and couldn't get anything going against a DBU team that was firing on all cylinders.

After scoring the first goal of the game, Unger punched in the last on a Christian Naizer set piece in the 76th minute.
