THE RUNDOWN
No. 1 DBU advanced to its fourth consecutive Lone Star Conference Championship after taking down St. Mary's by a score of 4-0 on Saturday. On a pristine afternoon for soccer in the DFW Metroplex, the full might of the Patriots was on display. DBU held St. Mary's to a single shot on frame while becoming the first team all season to hang four goals on the heads of the Rattlers (12-4-4).
The Patriots (15-1-1) pounced on a St. Mary's squad that was down a player after a red card in the 13th minute. DBU went on to outshoot the visiting team 11-6 in the first half and 22-12 in the game. Haley Roberson got the scoring started when she roped a cross to Angelina Olmos that was headed home in the 20th minute. It was yet another two-score day for Annie Severide. The sophomore striker added to her team-leading goal total with an incredible goal in the 34th minute off a Michelle Gonzalez "Marta" assist.
Staked to a 2-0 lead after the break, Severide picked back up where she left off with a back-breaking goal on a pass from Ella McQuaid just one minute into the second half. After assisting on the second score of the day, Marta got in on the action with a goal in the 54th minute that allowed coach Wood to empty the bench for the remainder of the contest.
