THE RUNDOWN
No. 20 Maryland (18-4) forced a rubber match with an 11-5 win over DBU in game two Saturday afternoon at Horner Ballpark. The Terrapins were persistent at the plate, generating seven hits in two-strike situations. UMD's Ryan Ramsey earned the win, holding the Patriots (14-8) to one run in 7.0 innings pitched, and the Maryland offense erupted for 17 hits in a reversal of DBU's game-one win.
For the second straight day, the Terps scored first on loaded bases. But Luke Eldred and the DBU defense turned a double play and induced a groundout to limit the damage to one run.
A sacrifice fly and a two-run blast off the bat of Shaw gave Maryland a 4-0 lead through three-and-a-half innings of play before DBU would get a run back in the bottom of the frame. In just his third at-bat of the season, Ryan Wrobleski ripped a double off the wall in left field and came home to score on a Luke Heefner single into right field.
The Terps posted multi-run frames in the fifth through seventh innings before Elijah Pleasants entered to retire four of the first five batters he faced.
Ramsey exited the game in the eighth inning, and the Patriot offense sputtered back to life. Cole Moore came home on a throwing error and a Nate Rombach RBI single into right field cut the deficit to 11-3. In the ninth, Jaxon Holder scored on a wild pitch and Miguel Santos crushed a double into right field to score Jarrett McDonald for the last run of the day.
