THE RUNDOWN
The No. 1 Patriots wrestled Lubbock Christian to a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon. After a scoreless first half, DBU's
Annie Severide punched in her team-leading fourth goal of the year in the 47th minute. But the Lady Chaps answered with a strike of their own five minutes later to ensure no winner would be declared at the LCU Soccer & Track Facility. The tie is DBU's (5-0-1, 1-0-1 LSC) first of the season and third since joining the Lone Star Conference in 2019.
LCU (4-0-4, 1-0-1 LSC) goalkeeper Abby Kone bought the Lady Chaps all the time they needed to get their offense going. The freshman recorded six of her seven saves in the first half to keep the match in a scoreless stalemate for 45 minutes. However, the scoreboard quickly lit up in the second half as
Haley Roberson and
Michelle Gonzalez "Marta" found
Annie Severide cutting through the heart of the LCU box. Severide then rifled the game's first goal past Kone and into the bottom of the net.
But the Patriots did not have long to enjoy their 1-0 advantage before Lubbock Christian drew even on a set piece in the 52 minute. On a corner kick, Lexi De La Cruz skipped the game-tying goal past the outstretched arms of a diving
Adrianna Schroeder.
The Patriots mustered one shot on goal in the final 35 minutes while the Lady Chaps managed none. Both squads refused to give up the game-winner as the second half progressed, and the action slowly moved midfield as time expired.
