THE RUNDOWN
DBU dropped a 2-0 duel to No. 24 St. Mary's Wednesday night at Patriot Soccer Field. The Patriots (1-2-4) kept the Rattlers (3-0-3) quiet in the first half before a pair of second-half goals delivered DBU its second loss of the 2022 season.Â
The St. Mary's defense covered Patriot Soccer field like a blanket. DBU's Mason Wallak tested the defense with a missile in the 14th minute that was deflected by a back row defender, and Peyton Voelker threatened deep inside the attacking third, but a swarm of Rattlers swooped in every time an opportunity presented itself.Â
STMU found its offensive stride quickly in the second half when a free kick from Dani Cresto found the head of a soaring Gitau Collins and the back of the DBU net in the 48th minute. Staked to a 1-0 lead, STMU added insurance on a left-footed strike from Adam Aboohamidi at the 54-minute mark. The Patriot defense reestablished their defense over the final 30 minutes but couldn't get anything going on the other end of the pitch to chip away at the 2-0 deficit.Â
