DBU Dominates in Straight-Sets Win Against Western New Mexico

THE RUNDOWN
DBU (14-3, 5-1) earned a straight-sets win over Western New Mexico (2-16, 0-6) in Silver City on Friday night. The Lady Patriots allowed a season-best 40 points in the match.

DBU came out of the gates sprinting. After winning the first six points of the match, the Lady Patriots never looked back. DBU rolled without ever so much as being tied with the Mustangs.

After trailing by as many as 15 in the first, Western New Mexico challenged in the second frame. With the score at 20-15, the Mustangs narrowed the Lady Patriot lead to 1 with a 5-1 run, forcing a DBU timeout. Jordan Fish's words worked, and her squad entered set three eyeing a sweep.

Knotted at four, the Lady Patriots claimed nine consecutive points to go up, 13-4. DBU's defense shined, limiting Western New Mexico to only 2 kills coupled with 13 attack errors, in what proved to be the Lady Patriots' largest margin of victory in any set this year.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Shaylee Shore was a menace at the net with six total blocks, her highest mark since last season as a member of the Rice Owls.
- Five Lady Patriots finished the match with at least 5 digs (Lauryn Burt, AJ Koele, Kenzie McNeill, Leah Palensky and Emily Van Slate).
- DBU had a season-high .388 hitting percentage in the match.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
.684 - The Lady Patriots hit a scorching .684 in the first set, their season-best for any set this season.
3.0 - DBU nearly doubled its season blocks per set figure (1.53), averaging three per set in Friday's win.
-.067 - The Lady Patriots held Western New Mexico to a -.067 attack percentage, their best defensive performance since 2014 (-.087 vs. Oklahoma Panhandle State).

JORDAN FISH ON SUSTAINING SUCCESS
"We want to capitalize on every opportunity we have to get better and better. We were able to do just that tonight, and we are hungry to keep going."

UP NEXT
