Lady Patriots Earn 15th Win with Tight Sweep of Javelinas

THE RUNDOWN
DBU (15-3, 6-1) swept Texas A&M–Kingsville (11-7, 3-2) on Friday night at The Burg Center to earn its 15th win of the year. Delaney Fuller led the Lady Patriots in kills 3rd time this season with 13.

Seventeen ties tell the story of the first frame as both squads struggled to steal the torch from the other. After a 15-15 tie, neither team led by more than a point until Fuller delivered the finishing blow in a set where she nailed 7 kills on .714 hitting. The Lady Patriots claimed the frame despite being outhit by the Javelinas, .289 to .351.

TAMUK started hot in set two, taking a 9-3 lead. DBU responded with a 6-0 run of its own to tie the game at 9. The Lady Patriots trailed only 1 other time in the set thanks to a pair of 6-1 and 7-2 stretches. Once again, TAMUK outhit DBU, this time .333 to .217, but failed to take the frame.

The Lady Patriots sustained the momentum early in the third set to go up, 6-3, but the Javelinas gave DBU a taste of its own medicine by stringing together six successive points. TAMUK kept control of the set until the Lady Patriots crawled back to tie the game at 17 with the help of three straight kills by Fuller. Abby Phillips' 4 kills on .667 hitting in the frame provided a consistent attack for DBU and aided the squad in claiming a close straight-set victory.
