THE RUNDOWN
The No. 14 DBU Women's Soccer Team solidified a 1-0 over the Oklahoma Christian Eagles this evening at Eagle Soccer Field to clinch their fifth consecutive Lone Star Conference regular season title. A goal in the first half and stellar defense throughout the night earned the Patriots their fifth consecutive win.
DBU totaled a season-low in both shots and corner kicks this evening against OCU. In the first half, both teams attempted just seven shots combined, showing just how much the defense in the centerfield was at work. The Patriots managed to keep the ball on their attacking half for most of the first 45 minutes, but OC's defense made playmaking difficult.
Sophia Schrock broke the scoreless tie in the 38th minute on a penalty kick after a foul was called on the Eagles inside the 18-yard box. Following this play, both an OC player and the Eagle's bench were given yellow cards. DBU went into the half up, 1-0.
In the second half, the teams played to a defensive stalemate. The Patriots compiled double the shot attempts (8) in the second 45, but could not find the back of the net. The Eagles were unable to find the equalizing goal, resulting in a 1-0 win for DBU.
