THE RUNDOWN
The No. 14 DBU Women's Soccer team concluded the regular season with a 5-0 shutout win over Texas A&M International this evening. The Patriots capitalized on corner kicks with four of the five goals scored on corner chances.
DBU's offense came out hot with sophomore Joeli Benson scoring the first goal of the night in the 7th minute off of Kaleigh Naizer's corner and Sophia Schrock's pass. The Patriots continued to dominate possession on the field, scoring again in the 19th minute on a goal headed by senior Rachel Allen, assisted by both Sophia Schrock and Taylor Tufts. DBU held TAMIU to four shots and entered halftime with a 2-0 lead.
The second half held a similar story for the Patriots who scored three more goals. The third goal of the night was scored by Taylor Tufts in the 52nd minute after her long shot outside of the box. The assist was given to Kaleigh Naizer. Freshman McKenna Vela capitalized on another corner in the 66th minute, assisted by Sophia Schrock and Parker Coe. The fifth goal was scored by Annie Severide, whose header was assisted by Ella McQuaid and Elise Borders in the 82nd minute.
Texas A&M International made it near the 18-yard box very few times, only earning two shots on goal on the night. The Patriot's defense suffocated TAMIU's chances and ended their four-game winning streak.
