THE RUNDOWNÂ
DBU Men's Soccer earned their first conference win this season against Texas A&M International in a competitive game that ended in a 2-1 final score. Both teams were mostly equal in stats, but the Patriots came out on top with a game-winning goal off of Peyton Voelker's penalty kick in the second half. Â
The Patriots built momentum in the start by having several corner opportunities in the first three minutes. Momentum continued to grow leading to the first goal of the night in the 4th minute when Gavyn Rosales received a pass from Peyton Volker and shot it into the lower right corner of the net. Rosales did not back down, shooting another dart right to goalkeeper Gal Grodetzki just a minute later. Â
TAMIU gained some momentum of their own and was able to keep it on their attacking half for a period of time, resulting in an equalizing goal by Jordan Mase assisted by Johan Portales in the 17th minute to put the score at 1-1. Â
The Patriots and Dustdevils entered the second half determined to come out with the winning goal. Each team shot twice as much in the final 45, but only DBU was able to secure a goal. Peyton Voelker had a penalty kick opportunity following a foul call on Andres Herrera. The kick made it past goalkeeper Gal Grodetski for the Patriots to take the lead 2-1. Freshman goalkeeper Patrick Banich helped the Patriots hold onto the lead with two huge saves in the final five minutes of the game.Â
While both teams were almost identical in shots, shots on goal, fouls, and assists, the Patriots were able to take the lead in goals, earning their fourth win of the season. Â

HEAD COACH JESS JOBE ON THE WIN
"Obviously very pleased to go into a tough place to play. They've got a lot of quality, really good team, credit to them for the way they play. It's always a really difficult place, a really difficult environment, and the boys have got to handle the kind of rigor of the road, and so we're we're really really proud of the boys, proud of the team, proud of the guys for kind of standing up to the challenges of just being on the road and just being in a tough place to play, so we're really pleased about that. Could not say enough about just the work that went into finishing the job and kind of sticking things out in the last 10 to 15 minutes. Even being up a man, they were pushing really hard. There's some definite things that we want to continue try and narrow down in terms of our performance and just going ahead and continuing to get better and better and better and taking every opportunity out to learn, but so many positives, so proud of the guy. , Really great effort from them tonight. Patrick Banich was the man of the match for us. He came up with two massive saves In the last five or so minutes. Really really proud of him for his contribution, stepping in, And doing a great job. At one point, we had all five freshman on teh field, so just really pleased with just the players, Coming in, coming off the bench, keeping the level really high for us and getting the job done. Really happy to be coming home and carrying momentum into Wednesday. All happy here and excited for the next one."
