THE RUNDOWNÂ
DBU Men's Soccer and the St. Edward's Hilltoppers played to a 1-1 draw this afternoon at Lewis-Chen Family Field in a game that saw very little action until the last 12 minutes. Andrew Hollenbach scored the equalizing goal with just three minutes left on the clock. Â
The first half remained scoreless for both teams, but tensions rose as players fought for possession. In total, 17 fouls were called in 45 minutes showing just how physically this game started out. Peyton Voelker made the first shot of the game putting the Patriots in a good position to score but was unable to find the goal. Three other shots were attempted by the Patriots in the first half, and the Hilltoppers finished the half with only three shots attempted. Â
Most of the second half was also scoreless until SEU was able to break the silence with Vincente Alvarez scoring in the 79th minute to go up on the Patriots 1-0. The next ten minutes would be a fight for DBU to catch up, and they were given three opportunities to do so. In the 83rd minute, the Patriots had a corner-kick opportunity, but it was a goal by Andrew Hollenbach with an assist by Ethan Unger in the 87th minute that tied up the game. In the final minute, Hollenbach shot again, making one last effort to pull the Patriots ahead, but the attempt was caught by SEU goalkeeper Kaleo Francis to make the final score a 1-1 draw. Â

HEAD COACH JESS JOBE ON THE DRAWÂ
"We're disappointed ultimately to not have come away with three points (a win is three points in conference rankings), but we were really proud of our ability to find ourselves in a tough position and continue to fight and earn what ended up being a really difficult point on the road. St. Edward's has done a lot of work since the last time we faced them early in the season and credit to them, they were organized and they work really hard. They play a gritty style, it was a good performance on their end to put us under pressure. They took their chances and could have had more of it on their end and we feel like we could have had more of it on our end and so we've gotta just swallow the result for what it is and take the positives from it. Right now, it's all about turning our attention to West Texas and focusing our attention on the next opportunity we have. [It was a] good game overall but definitely some things we want to look at and continue to grow from and get better as a team and I think it will give us a good opportunity to analyze some of those areas and continue to go."
