THE RUNDOWNÂ
The DBU Women's Soccer Team won their third Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship in a 4-0 shutout over No. 2 seed St. Mary's at Patriot Soccer Field. In a similar fashion to the last five games, the Patriots prevented STMU from scoring any goals and went on to score their second most goals this season in the 90 minutes. Â
St. Mary's kicked off the championship match, but possession was quickly controlled by the Patriots, who spent much of the first 45 minutes in their attacking third. In the tenth minute, DBU's third corner kick of the match, taken by Kaleigh Naizer, found the head of Parker Coe who flicked it past Rattler goalkeeper Rebecca Difronzo to put the Patriots up 1-0. In the 23rd minute, Sophia Schrock dribbled down the pitch to find Taylor Tufts who made a long shot outside of the box for DBU's second goal of the game. STMU's defense could not gain control as Parker Coe went on to score again just two minutes later with assists by Taylor Tufts and Sophia Schrock. DBU went into the half with a 3-0 advantage. Â
In the second half, the Patriot defense put on a show as the back row duo of Rachel Allen and Parker Coe prevented St. Mary's from any opportunities inside the box. Defensive mid's Sophia Schrock and Joeli Benson playmade in the midfield as Schrock went on to create DBU's fourth goal in the 55th minute with what started out as a corner kick by Kaleign Naizer. Naizer's set-piece chance was deflected out to Rachel Allen who found Schrock inside the box for the goal. Â
In the final 30 minutes, Head Coach Marcus Wood sent in a wave of subs who finished out the game for the Patriots. In a 4-0 final, DBU won their second consecutive LSC Tournament Title.
