THE RUNDOWN
Under Major-League lights on Tuesday, the Patriots (4-0) toppled the UT Arlington Mavericks (1-3), 14-3, in seven innings at Globe Life Field in Arlington. Each player for DBU reached base at least once in the win.
Â
The scoring spree began in the second inning.
Nate Rombach singled, and
Luke Heefner doubled to set the stage for an RBI single by
Kodie Kolden. Kolden was tagged out in a rundown between first and second on the play, but
Nathan Humphreys still drove in Heefner with a double to left-center field.
Â
Back-to-back walks by
Grant Jay and
Tom Poole loaded the bases for
Jace Grady, who followed suit with a full-count walk of his own to score Humphreys.
Â
Jack Hagan relieved an injured Cade McGlade following the Grady walk only to give up a grand slam to
Miguel Santos for the final four of seven runs in the frame.
Â
The Patriot offensive onslaught was revived in the fourth with a 6-spot to reach a 13-run total.
Miguel Santos earned his fifth RBI of the day and 12th in the last two games with an RBI single to allow
Ethan Mann to score from second.
Â
With runners Santos and Rombach on the corners, Heefner, Kolden, and Humphreys strung together three straight hits, capped off by a Humphreys round-tripper to deep right-center field.
Â
The Mavericks avoided a shutout with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth courtesy of a Tyson Pointer double and Ben Lumsden sacrifice fly.Â
Â
They would also score a run in the sixth, but that tally was matched by a Mann sac fly in the top of the seventh, the final inning in a run-rule win for DBU.
