DBU Splits Matches Against Crusaders & Rams to Open Season

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Men's Tennis opened their 2023 spring season with a split over the weekend at the Arlington Tennis Center. On Friday, the Patriots handed the University of Dallas a 6-1 defeat before falling 5-2 to Texas Wesleyan on Saturday.

In Friday's wins over the Crusaders, Bradley Neil led the way for DBU at the line 1 position in singles play with a commanding 6-1 victory over Dallas' Shu-Lun Chang. The Patriots also saw impressive performances from the trio of Jacob Capone, Mariano Guzman, and Braxton Jett, who each won their matches in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

On Saturday, the Patriots fell by three points to a veteran Texas Wesleyan squad. DBU's lone points came from Arturo Langle, who battled to a win in three sets over Wesleyan's Lucas Diaz Friere, winning the final set in 12-10 fashion, and Edgar Mayorga, who also capped off valiant effort with a 10-5 win in the third set.

DBU HEAD COACH WADE MORGAN ON THE START TO THE SEASON
"Not a bad first weekend for our guys. We have some things to improve on, no doubt, but our new players performed exceptionally well this weekend. I was very impressed with the amount of energy and fire the guys had in both matches. This will be important to us as we face some tough opponents coming up."

UP NEXT
DBU travels to Conway, Arkansas, on Friday and will compete in three matches over the weekend against the University of the Ozarks, Hendrix, and John Brown.
