THE RUNDOWN
No. 3 DBU wrestled No. 7 Colorado School of Mines to a 2-2 draw this afternoon at Stermole Soccer Stadium in Golden, Colorado. Two goals by the Patriots in the first half were answered by Mines in the second half resulting in the first tie of the season for both teams.
The Patriots controlled much of the first half with a total of eight shots and two goals. The first goal came in the 27th minute when junior Sophia Schrock's shot found the back of the net after an assist from Taylor Tufts. This would mark Schrock's first goal of the season. Nine minutes later, Taylor Tufts went on to score her own goal for the Patriots with an assist from Michelle Gonzalez, finishing the half at 2-0. The Orediggers saw four shots on goal in the first half, but all were blocked by freshman goalkeeper Carmen Lopez.
The final 45 minutes of the game proved to be successful for Mines, as they prevented any shots from being made by the Patriots. On a set-piece at the 57-minute mark, Mines's Natalie Rouse, a transfer from UNLV, headed the ball past Carmen Lopez to put the Orediggers on the scoreboard 2-1. Mines drew even following a goal by Bella Campos in the 75th minute, making the score 2-2. Neither squad was able to make a game-winner as the second half progressed, and they continued to battle for possession until time expired.
