THE RUNDOWN
In front of a record crowd of 1423, No. 8 DBU shut out Oklahoma Baptist University with a final score of 5-0. Michelle Gonzalez "Marta" scored twice for DBU and Taylor Tufts contributed three assists as DBU (4-0-1) closed out their non-conference slate with a shutout win.
During the first half, the momentum hung in the balance as both teams fought for possession. Both DBU and OBU (1-5) defenses started off hot until DBU's Marta broke through in the 33rd minute after receiving a pass from Taylor Tufts. Elise Boarders scored the second goal for DBU as well as her 1st career goal in the 41st minute with Tufts gaining her second assist of the night. DBU was up 2-0 on the Bison heading into the second half.
In the 59th minute, Parker Coe sent a long pass across the field to Marta who found the back of the goal putting the Patriots up 3-0. Eight minutes later, Annie Severide scored again with the assist from Kaleigh Naizer, bringing the score to 4-0. Head Coach Marcus Wood began subbing in bench players following the 4th goal, showcasing the depth that DBU has within their roster. After being in the game for less than 2 minutes, Karlee Torisk headed a free kick by Taylor Tufts into the goal in the 73rd minute bringing the final score to 5-0. DBU held Oklahoma Baptist to just one shot in the 90 minutes.
