Fast Start Leads No. 7 DBU to a 4-1 Win Over SWOSU in Season Opener

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Women's Soccer team opened their season with a win over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday at the SWOSU Athletic Complex in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Three goals in the first half made by DBU's Haley Roberson, Taylor Tufts, and Angelina Olmos lifted the Patriots up 3-0 at halftime, and the Bulldogs were unable to make a comeback.

Haley Roberson scored the first goal of the season for DBU in the first minute of the game. Her shot found the lower left corner of the net and is what began the surge of momentum made by the Patriots early on. The next goal came five minutes later when Taylor Tufts made a shot on the lower right corner. Then, in the eighth minute, an assist from Annie Severide to Angelina Olmos resulted in another goal for the Patriots making the score 3-0 within the first 10 minutes of the game. The Bulldogs scored their first goal in the 22nd minute on a penalty kick taken by Sola Tsuruta, and the half ended at 3-1 with the Patriots in the lead.

Much like the first half began, DBU struck early again when Annie Severide registered her first goal of the season just two minutes into the second half putting DBU ahead 4-1. The Bulldogs were unable to match the charge made by DBU, bringing the final score of DBU's season-opening game to 4-1.

HEAD COACH MARCUS WOOD ON THE WIN

"SWOSU is a consistent contender for conference championships in the GAAC. I have always admired Mark Persson and his program. The Patriots came out very strong, scoring 3 goals in the first 8 minutes. We played well over the next 82 minutes but missed multiple finishing opportunities. We are hopeful that today was step one and we will get better every week."
