THE RUNDOWNÂ
No. 9 DBU advances to the Lone Star Conference semifinal match after a 3-0 domination over Oklahoma Christian. Their three-goal push in the first half led to their fourth consecutive shutout.Â
The No. 6 scoring offense in the nation looked the part in the first half, combining for three goals by three players. Sophia Schrock kicked the team's offensive push off with her 20th career goal in the 14th minute. Kaleigh Naizer sent her corner kick to the back post, connecting with Parker Coe into a sea of red and white jerseys. After a couple seconds of back and forth, Sophia Schrock was able to put the ball on her left foot for DBU's first goal. Three minutes later, Taylor Tufts intercepted a pass made by an Eagle defender and made the shot from the top of the box to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead. DBU's final goal came in the 34th minute when Joeli Benson's shot ricocheted off the crossbar and McKenna Vela scored on the second chance. Despite their two chances that hit the crossbar, the Eagles were suffocated by the DBU's back line. The Patriots went into halftime with a three-nil lead. Â
In the second half, DBU's defense took control of the match, limiting OC to just three shots, none of which were on goal. Despite their nine shots, the Patriots were unable to score any more goals. Possession hovered around center field where the two teams battled for a chance to score. Ultimately, the Patriots' three goals in the first half were enough to advance to the next round of the conference tournament. Â
