THE RUNDOWN
Two goals in each half and a comprehensive defensive effort boosted No. 9 DBU to a 4-0 victory over the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds. This match finalizes the regular season, leading the Patriots into the Lone Star Conference tournament.
The Patriots wasted no time in the match as their first offensive surge resulted in a goal. In the second minute, Angelina Olmos dribbled down the field and passed the ball to Taylor Tufts to avoid ENMU defenders. Tufts found Olmos just moments later, leading to a foot race to the net that DBU ultimately won. Twenty minutes later, DBU struck again. Parker Coe's header started a passing chain to Haley Roberson, then to McKenna Vela who found Anne Louthan at the base of the goal line. Louthan delivered her fifth goal of the season. Momentum stayed with the Patriots during the half, and DBU only allowed four shots off the Greyhounds.
Shots by Parker Coe and McKenna Vela kicked off the second half as DBU's offensive push continued. In the 61st minute, Anne Louthan dribbled the ball down the right side of the Patriots' attacking half. Louthan found Vela in the box, who flicked it to Taylor Tufts for her 15th career goal. Five minutes later, DBU earned a set-piece chance, taken by Kaleigh Naizer. Her kick was battered around in the 18-yard box until Sophie Shrock sent a blistering shot into the right corner of the net. The Greyhounds, despite their chances, could not find a goal against DBU's defensive wall.
