THE RUNDOWNÂ
The No. 10 Patriots tie the Oklahoma Christian Eagles 3-3 after a thrilling turn of events in the final moments of the game. Both teams scored twice in the first half, tying them at the half. DBU earned the lead halfway through the second half, but OC found the equalizer in the very last second to tie the Patriots at 3-3. Â
DBU struck first in this conference opener with a goal in the 15th minute by freshman Grace Berry, who received a cross inside the box from Angelina Olmos. The score was tied less than two minutes later when Oklahoma Christian's Raquel Fanelli took a penalty kick just to the left of the box that hit the back of a DBU player and went into the goal. The Eagles wasted no time, scoring again in the 19th minute. Their leading scorer Kyla Lovelace shot from approximately 30 yards out, making it into the top portion of the goal. The Patriots found the tying goal just before the half when Annie Severide drew a foul, leading to a penalty kick at the top of the box. Elise Borders took the penalty kick and hit the right post of the goal, which deflected into the box, onto the foot of sophomore Riley Sisson, and into the back of the net. Â
DBU ended the half on a high and the match remained 2-2 until the 75th minute when Annie Severide gave the Patriots a one-goal lead. Sophie Schrock connected a long pass with Haley Roberson who passed it inside the box to Severide and made a way for their third goal of the night. The Patriots continued to fend the Eagles off, holding possession on their attacking half. With five minutes to play, OC Head Coach Evan Dressel subbed in six players. OC began to fight for control, leading the Patriots down the field until the five-second mark when they earned a corner kick. Layla Lopez kicked the ball into the sea of blue and white jerseys, and it found Kyla Lovelace, who put it in the net at 0.1 second left. The final score was 3-3 at Patriot Soccer Field. Â
