THE RUNDOWN
The third-ranked DBU Women's Soccer team continues to make history. On Wednesday evening at Patriot Soccer Field, the Patriots became the first team in program history to open a season with nine straight wins, defeating Texas A&M International, 3-0.
Freshman standout
Chandler Wheat led the charge with her second straight multi-goal performance, while the Patriot defense turned in its sixth consecutive shutout.
DBU broke through in the 21st minute when
Hannah Montoya connected with
Riley Olsen, whose right-footed strike from inside the box slipped into the bottom-left corner of the net. Just before halftime, the Patriots doubled their advantage as Wheat buried a shot off an assist from
Kylar Coffman in the 42nd minute.
With a two-goal cushion in the closing minutes, Wheat put the match on ice. Off a cross from
Angelina Olmos, the freshman calmly slotted home her second goal of the night to secure the 3-0 victory and extend DBU's perfect start.
