THE RUNDOWN
The No. 3-ranked DBU Women's Soccer team continued their undefeated run, improving to 10-0 on the season with a 2-0 shutout over UT Permian Basin on Saturday afternoon in Odessa. Goals from
McKenna Vela and
Joeli Benson powered the Patriots to victory, while the win marked head coach
Marcus Wood's 444th career victory, moving him into 20th all-time in NCAA Women's Soccer history.
It took DBU less than eight minutes to find the back of the net when
McKenna Vela capitalized on a cross from
Angelina Olmos, slotting her shot past UTPB goalkeeper Valeria Delgado for an early 1-0 lead. The Patriots' defense dominated throughout the opening half, limiting the Falcons to just three shots while outshooting them 10-3.
Clinging to a one-goal lead at the break, DBU extended their advantage in the 61st minute when
Joeli Benson netted her first goal of the season. From there, the Patriots' defense locked down once again, allowing only two second-half shots en route to their seventh straight shutout.
