THE RUNDOWN
The No. 1–ranked DBU Women's Soccer team saw their postseason run come to an end in a 2–0 loss to No. 4 Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday afternoon at Patriot Soccer Field. The Patriots close the year with a 20–2 record, matching the 2021 squad for the most wins in program history and reaching the National Quarterfinals for the third time.
Cal Poly Pomona broke through in the 33rd minute. After a foul set up a free-kick opportunity, Kiarra D'Arcangelo's strike caromed off the post, and Marisa Salazar pounced on the rebound to put the Broncos ahead, 1–0. The Patriots were outshot 9–6 in the opening half and struggled to generate chances against a resolute Bronco back line that held DBU without a shot over the final 45 minutes.
In a second half largely controlled by the Broncos, Cal Poly Pomona doubled their lead in the 55th minute when Vanessa Cruz converted a penalty kick, putting the match out of reach.
