Patriots Battle Hard, Fall Short in Close Weekend Matches

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Patriots men's tennis team faced a tough weekend, battling against UAFS on Friday and Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday. Despite their best efforts, they came up short in both matches, but there were some strong individual performances throughout.

Against UAFS, the match was extremely close and came down to a heartbreaking 3-4 loss. The doubles team of Matthew Abbey and Arturo Langle secured a 6-3 win at line 2, while Alec Rule and Edgar Mayorga triumphed 7(8)-6(6) at line 3. Unfortunately, JW Altman and Fabian Rosales couldn't pull off a win at line 1, losing 3-6. In singles, Mayorga and Arturo Beitman emerged victorious in their respective matches, but it wasn't enough to secure the win. The overall match remained tight from start to finish, with a pivotal three-setter at the end sealing the Patriots' fate in a narrow defeat.

Saturday brought another close contest, this time against Southeastern Oklahoma State. In doubles, only Edgar Mayorga and Alec Rule managed to secure a 6-4 win, but DBU battled hard in every match. The Patriots played close at every line, but it was the SEOK team that ultimately came out on top. In singles, Altman, Ricardo Carvajalino, and Fabian Rosales each earned wins at their respective lines, but the rest of the team fell short. Both Matthew Abbey and Arturo Langle were ahead in their singles matches when SEOK clinched the victory, forcing play to stop. Despite the setbacks, the Patriots showed resilience and were competitive throughout the weekend.

DBU HEAD COACH WADE MORGAN ON THE TEAM PERFORMANCE

"These last 2 matches have been very competitive against high-level competition. Our guys understand what level they need to be at in order to have success in the conference, and we're working in that direction."
