DBU Men’s Tennis Rises to the Challenge in Orlando

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU men's tennis team had an impressive week in Orlando, Florida, facing off against a series of tough opponents. From dominating performances to narrow losses, the team demonstrated their depth and resilience, with each player contributing to the overall success. Despite some challenges, the Patriots' collective effort proved to standout, especially in singles play, where several players went undefeated. The week was a valuable experience, and the results showcased the team's growth and ability to compete at a high level.

On Monday, the Patriots started strong with a 6-1 victory over West Chester. The team swept the doubles round, bringing each pair home a win, setting the tone for the day. In singles, DBU continued its dominance, with every player securing a victory in their respective matches. This victory was a clear display of the team's depth, with all players contributing to the win. The following day, DBU faced Ferris State, a nationally ranked team, and despite their best efforts, the Patriots fell 2-5. Ferris State dominated in doubles, sweeping all three matches to take an early lead. However, the Patriots showed resilience in singles play. Matthew Abbey at line 1 and Fabian Rosales at line 4 earned victories, but it wasn't enough to overcome Ferris State's wins at lines 2, 3, 5, and 6, resulting in a 2-5 defeat.

Thursday was a day of redemption for the Patriots, as they faced Coe College twice, winning both matchups 7-0 and 5-2. In the first matchup, DBU swept the singles round, with each player claiming a victory. The doubles teams of Matthew Abbey and Arturo Langle, as well as Ricardo Carvajalino and Arturo Beitman, both secured wins to help the Patriots take a commanding 7-0 victory. The second meeting with Coe College proved a bit more challenging, but the Patriots still emerged with a 5-2 win. While DBU dominated in doubles with three wins, singles play was a bit tighter. Alec Rule (line 1), Kell Castleberry (line 3), and Mariano Guzman (line 4) all picked up victories to seal the win. To close out their Florida trip, the Patriots capped the week with a dominant 7-0 win over LaGrange. DBU excelled in both doubles and singles play, with every player walking away with a win. The team's performance throughout the week proved that the Patriots are a force to be reckoned with, and their strong showing in Orlando sets them up for success moving forward.

DBU HEAD COACH WADE MORGAN ON THE TEAM PERFORMANCE

"This week, we proved that we are a deep team. The guys responded well mentally to some harsh conditions, and it was good to see everyone on the team collect a win."
