Layne Scores Two Goals in Win Over A&M International

The Dallas Baptist Lady Patriot Soccer Team improved to 7-9 on the season and 5-3 in the Heartland Conference after picking up a 3-2 win over the visiting Dustdevils from Texas A&M International on Thursday evening.

The Dustdevils struck first in the game, scoring the first goal less than ten minutes after kickoff. TAMIU forward Ashley Wall played a corner kick from Lisette Gill, and scored her fifth goal of the season at the 8:07 mark to give the Dustdevils a 1-0 lead.

DBU Junior Brittany Layne tied the game at one goal apiece after scoring her ninth goal of the season at 22:10. Senior Ally Bales picked up the assist on the play after she broke free in the goal box and dropped a pass to Layne for the uncontested goal.

Layne scored her second goal of the night less than three minutes later, when her free kick sailed past the TAMIU goalkeeper, and found the back right corner of the net.

The Dustdevils tied the game at two with a goal just after halftime, but Bales scored the game-winning goal for the Lady Patriots in the 63rd minute. Layne picked up the assist on the play that gave Bales her eighth goal of the season.

The Lady Patriots will return to Patriot Field on Saturday for a game against St. Mary's University. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
