The DBU Patriot Baseball team split the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Patriot Field with South Dakota State University, and won the series, after winning game one on Friday evening. The Patriots lost game one on Saturday by the score of 23-8, but rebounded with a 21-5 win in the rubber match.
The three-game series featured a total of 78 runs, 99 hits, and 22 homeruns from the two teams combined.
After the weekend series, DBU improves to 16-12 on the season, while SDSU falls to 12-9.
Junior
Brandon Williamson was stuck with the loss in game one, pitching six innings and giving up nine runs, falling to 5-2 on the year.
In game two, Freshman
Will Lane picked up the win, pitching five and a third innings, allowing five runs on six hits and striking out six, improving to 2-1 on the season.
Freshman
Aaron Gilbreath picked up the save, his first of his collegiate career, pitching three and two-thirds innings, allowing only one hit and striking out six.
The Jackrabbits took an early 1-0 lead in game one scoring one run in the first inning on two hits off of DBU starter Williamson and never trailed in the game.
The Patriots got on the board in the bottom of the third inning on a solo homerun by Freshman
Austin Elkins to tie the game 1-1.
SDSU responded with one run in the fourth inning, three runs in the fifth, on back-to-back homeruns, and another run in the sixth to retake the lead.
DBU managed to make it a one run game in the sixth inning, scoring four runs. Junior
Jason Krizan walked and advanced to third on a double by Senior

Ryan Behmanesh followed with a RBI double off the centerfield wall to set up a three-run homerun by Senior
Travis Meiners to leave the score 6-5.
The Jackrabbits once again padded their lead in the top of the seventh inning by scoring four runs, on six hits, including back-to-back homeruns for the second time in the game, chasing Williamson from the game and leaving the score 10-5.
The Patriots managed to push across two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on a RBI fielder's choice
by Enos and a RBI single by Behmanesh, to make the score 10-7.
SDSU erupted for 10 runs in the eighth inning off of DBU pitchers Freshman
Duncan McAlpine and Senior Michael Lacourse. The Jackrabbits increased their lead to 20-7 on six hits, including three homeruns.
In the bottom of the eighth, DBU scored one run on a RBI single by Senior
Austin Knight, leaving the score 20-8.
SDSU padded their lead in the ninth inning, scoring three runs on two homeruns, making the final score 23-8.
In game two, the Jackrabbits started the first inning, just where they left off in the first game, scoring four runs on four hits, including a three-run homerun, to take an early 4-0 lead.
DBU was able to add two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a two RBI single by Behmanesh, scoring Robbins and Knight, who walked to start the inning.
Sophomore
Ben Mrachek hit a solo homerun in the second inning and Krizan later added a RBI single to tie the game at 4-4.
In the third inning, Behmanesh singled and later scored on a homerun by McAlpine, his ninth of the season. Meiners added a double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Mrachek and Robbins followed with a RBI double scoring Knight, who had walked to give the Patriots an 8-4 lead, their first of the day.
SDSU managed to add one run in the sixth inning on a RBI double, chasing Lane from the game, but Gilbreath was able to close out the inning with two strikeouts to hold the Patriot lead at 8-5.
Enos lead off the sixth inning with a solo homerun over the right field wall. Behmanesh followed with a walk and Meiners reached on an error. Elkins singled to load the bases to set up a sacrifice fly by Mrachek, scoring Meiners. Knight added a two RBI double to clear the bases and give the Patriots a 12-5 lead.
The Patriots added three more runs in the seventh inning, after Enos walked and Behmanesh reached on a base hit bunt. McAlpine followed with a single to load the bases for Elkins who hit a RBI double to score two runs. Mrachek hit his third RBI sacrifice fly of the evening, scoring McAlpine. Knight added a RBI single to push the Patriot lead to 16-5.
Enos hit another solo homerun to lead off the eighth inning, his 10th of the season. Pinch hitter Junior
Ryan Thompson followed with a double and scored on a RBI double by Sophomore
Landon Anderson. Elkins added a single to set up a RBI single by Mrachek and then a RBI double by Knight. Junior
Josh Wilson added a RBI single to score another run and increase the lead to 21-5.
The Patriots are back in action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Houston to take on Rice University. First pitch is slated for 6:30.
