The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Baseball fell to 27-23 on the season with a 7-6 loss to the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Friday evening at Patriot Field.
Senior Ryan Millard pitching in his final home start of his collegiate career was stuck with a no decision, after pitching eight innings, allowing four runs, three earned, while scattering eight hits and striking out three.
Leading the Patriots at the plate was Senior Ryan Enos, who went 4 for 5 and Junior Chris Haney, who went 2 for 4 with three RBI.
DBU scored first, scoring one run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a double by Sophomore Ryan Behmanesh and a RBI single by Haney.
The Patriots increased their lead to 2-0 on a solo homerun over the left field wall by Junior Tyler Robbins, his sixth of the season.
The Golden Lions responded with an unearned run in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 2-1.
DBU added four runs in the bottom of the seventh. Junior Jason Krizan walked to start the inning and Enos followed with a single. Senior Travis Meiners drew a walk to set up a two RBI single by Haney and Sophomore Landon Anderson followed with a two RBI double, leaving the score 6-1.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff took the lead in the top of the ninth inning, chasing Millard from the game and scoring six runs on six hits off reliever Jared Stafford, to take their first lead of the game, 7-6.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Patriots threatened after Meiners and Haney singled to start the inning. Anderson followed with a sacrifice bunt to move the runners over and Senior Austin Knight was intentionally walked to load the bases, but a double play ended the game for the Patriots.
The Patriots will take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday afternoon at Patriot Field for the third and final game of the series.
